Clients may come for a few sessions to focus on addressing a particular event; life transition, stress, work-balance; or may come for long term therapy where we explore internal processes that may be affecting their overall functioning.
The focus of individual therapy is to help clients achieve a better sense of satisfaction with who they are and where they are in their life; to make changes and to address unprocessed feelings when needed to overcome challenges.
I draw from different theoretical approaches to therapy; the systems perspective, which provides a better and broader understanding of family dynamics; the cognitive behavioral approach, which assists us in reviewing beliefs and reactions to situations; and the attachment theory, which sheds light into the way we bond and connect with others. I also incorporate mindfulness, trauma informed care and gestalt as needed.

Couples

Many couples come to therapy because they have gotten stuck in a negative pattern of relationship. They are feeling disconnected, unable to communicate what they want or need in the relationship. They are often tired of having the same arguments without resolution and not feeling heard. Couples therapy aims at helping each partner understand the “dance/cycle” of interaction that contributes to them being stuck and distant.
The therapist starts by helping the couple gain understanding of how each partner responds to their conflict and contribution to the current dynamic; exploring the underlying feelings, behaviors and later on facilitating the expression of the deeper longing. This aims at stopping the negative/distancing cycle, giving them an opportunity to start to develop a new way of communicating and connection with one another.
Emotionally Focus Therapy is a process oriented approach where during the session different techniques are practiced in a safe environment with the support of the therapist.

Online

For client’s convenience, I also offer online therapy or Tele-therapy. If you have a tight schedule on-line therapy allows you the convenience of meeting with your therapist at the scheduled time, from the your office, home, or place of residence. For some people it may bring a sense of comfort of being in their familiar space while discussing personal issues. Online therapy is effective and makes treatment more approachable and may offer some ease to get you started. This modality can be combined with in-person services as well.

For online services I use a HIPPA compliant encrypted service through Simple Practice platform. Most insurance companies do provide reimbursement for this service.
